Brunch in Bloor West Village: Our Top Picks
While recent news of the provincial government’s plans to extend the COVID-19 lockdown limitations and stay-at-home order has left us disappointed — especially as we head into mid-Spring and patio season — we’re committed to keeping our spirits high and supporting local businesses as best we can.
One of the best (and most delicious) ways we know how to keep supporting local while staying safely at home is to order food from some of our favourite restaurants and cafes in the west end — and not just for dinner.
The way we see it, just because we can’t share a sunny Bloor West Village patio (and a few Mimosas) with friends just yet doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy a great brunch at home. So, we’ve put together this guide to show you how we’re planning on supporting those BWV restaurants that are as committed to serving us up fantastic brunches as we are to eating them!
To find out where a few of our top brunch spots in Bloor West Village are, read our guide below. Happy brunching!
Bloor Jane Restaurant
2434 Bloor Street West | 416-766-5383 |
Toronto, ON M6S 1P9 | Visit Website |
Located at 2434 Bloor Street West in the heart of Bloor West Village, Bloor Jane Restaurant is a classic diner-style restaurant and is one of the most unassuming places to get one of the best brunches in Toronto.
It’s been around forever, and it’s not hard to see why. They aren’t fancy and neither is their menu, but what they do, they do well, and Bloor Jane Restaurant has become a BWV neighbourhood staple because of it.
In fact, a member of Toronto’s unofficial foodie royalty, Affirm Pristine of the Cheese Boutique lineage, highlighted Bloor Jane Restaurant in a Bloor West Village spotlight article by Toronto Life.
Speaking to the publication, Pristine said “there’s nothing pretentious about this breakfast; it’s very simple, and for me, it’s very nostalgic. I’ve dined at all the fancy restaurants in the city, but sometimes I just want to eat here.”
Open from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every day (barring a 2 p.m. close on Sundays), order brunch classics to-go from Bloor Jane Restaurant.
Sunshine Village Grill
2200 Bloor Street West | 416-763-1444 |
Toronto, ON M6S 1N4 | Visit Website |
While not quite as authentically old school as Bloor Jane Restaurant, BWV’s Sunshine Village Grill pays great homage to the classic diner-style experience both in terms of atmosphere and menu.
Found at 2200 Bloor Street West, this all-day breakfast and lunch joint has been saving the minds and stomachs of groggy (and perhaps hungover) customers for years. To us, Bloor West Village just wouldn’t feel the same without this old reliable restaurant, due in part because of its notably extensive brunch menu.
You can help keep Sunshine Village Grill alive by ordering your next brunch online between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays, or 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.
Delights of China
2181 Bloor Street West | 416-762-2888 |
Toronto, ON M6S 1N2 |
Not every brunch needs to consist of pancakes, bacon, and eggs benny. When we’re hungry for a late breakfast in BWV, sometimes the most appealing cuisine is actually Chinese.
For some of Bloor West Village’s most delicious and traditional Dim Sum, Delights of China at 2181 Bloor Street West is a top pick. We enjoy the shareable small plate concept of Dim Sum, which Delights of China has definitely mastered.
Between dumplings, pork buns, and steamed sticky rice, Delights of China has a dim sum menu item to satisfy any hungry tummy past 11:30 a.m (or 12 on weekends). While their doors are temporarily closed during lockdown, you can order from Delights of China on Skip The Dishes here.
Baka Gallery Cafe
2256 Bloor Street West | 416-766-2252 |
Toronto, ON M6S 1N6 | Visit Website |
As you might’ve gathered from the name, the Baka Gallery Cafe does more than just food. This unique BWV venue commonly hosts artists and their works while also serving up some of the best coffee and eats on the Bloor strip.
However, when it comes to brunch, we’re more interested in what’s on the tables than the walls. With a menu inspired by grandmothers around the world (‘Baka’ is Croatian for grandmother), this quaint little cafe is dedicated to serving a wide variety of gourmet comfort food dishes.
And, with a menu developed by Executive Chef Peter Budisa that focuses on quality local ingredients, you can look to Baka for one of the most delectable brunch experiences in BWV.
