Although spring of this year is beginning to look eerily similar to the spring of 2020 due to ever-changing lockdown restrictions and limitations, over at Nested we’re all about making the best of what we have.

What we do have is some inspiring warm spring weather and an abundance of beautiful outdoor space, which means this year we’re still able to enjoy some of our favourite things to do in west end Toronto this year.

So whether you’re a family, a young couple, a senior, or anyone who enjoys being active and getting outside, our list of things to do in west end Toronto is for you. Here are some of our favourite ways to enjoy the upcoming warmer weather, and some places we hope to see you this spring!

Roller-Skating on The Bentway

When temperatures dropped below freezing this past winter, one of the most popular things to do in west end Toronto was ice skating along The Bentway, the recently revamped public recreational area underneath the Gardiner Expressway.

Despite the ice melting away this springtime, however, it appears the skating won’t stop. The Bentway has instead been transformed into Retro Rolla, a 70’s-themed rollerskating track that will be available to the public in June.

With fun, vintage-inspired rollerskates available to rent from $18 per hour starting in mid-June, The Bentway is sure to be a fun spot in west end Toronto to hang out and skate in this spring.

Ride Along The Martin Goodman Trail

Part of the city’s Waterfront Trail System, the 22-kilometre-long Martin Goodman Trail is a long and winding paved trail that runs along the southern shores of Toronto’s west end. This easily accessible trail is widely popular among runners, hikers, and bikers in the warmer months, and for good reason.

Essentially any point along the Martin Goodman Trail offers stunning views of Lake Ontario and Toronto’s shoreline, and the trail is sure to be one of the most frequently-enjoyed outdoor destinations in Toronto this spring.

Hike The Humber Trail

We’ve already covered just how much we enjoy exploring the Humber River Trail in springtime, but we don’t miss a beat when the opportunity comes to talk about it again.

Whether you set out on foot, with a furry friend, or on two wheels, venturing along the Humber River Trail is one of the most beautiful things to do in west end Toronto when the weather is warmer.

With a huge selection of self-guided Discovery Walks, almost all of which connect to public parks, green spaces, gardens, and ravines, there are about 50 kilometres of public pathways along the Humber Trail just waiting for you to explore them this spring.

Picnic In Rennie Park

Celebrated city-wide for its four lit tennis courts, artificial ice rink, wading pool, and many other publicly accessible amenities, Rennie Park in Toronto’s west end attracts visitors year-round. However, spring is one of our favourite seasons to visit this 9.7-hectare park in Swansea.

When temperatures begin to rise once again in springtime, one of our favourite things to do in west end Toronto is to picnic. With sprawling green spaces and views of the much-loved Catfish Pond, Rennie Park is the perfect place to set down your checkered cloth and wicker basket.

And, with designated picnic shelters and sites, we’re not alone in loving a meal ‘al fresco’ in Rennie Park.

Ride Outside at Sunnyside Bike Park

Just a short jaunt south of Rennie Park is Sunnyside Bike Park, a designated BMX ride park open for all to enjoy. With a variety of clay jumps, hills, boardwalks, and skinnies, Sunnyside Bike Park is a BMX-fan’s heaven.

Although we don’t personally ride BMX bikes, it’s a hugely popular thing to do in west end Toronto come the warmer months, and is also a fantastic day out if you’re got younger kids. Designed to cater to novice or advanced riders, there’s an opportunity for everyone to enjoy their visit to Sunnyside Bike Park regardless of their BMX experience.
